You are special, you want something unique, a different look, maybe something that you saw in a movie. Whatever that is, you too can have your own custom wedding dress as long as you can afford one.

Custom Wedding Dresses Can be Expensive

There is nothing cheap about custom wedding dresses. In today’s tough economy, however, I am sure that with a little patience and some online surfing you can find a shop or a custom tailor that will make just about anything you desire. And isn’t that what a wedding is supposed to be all about? This is your time, your day, and your special memory! You should do all that you can to make it unique and that might mean having your wedding dress made to order.

And if money is a problem you are not going to find too many wedding gowns under $2000 these days anyway. Even at those special wedding dress events where brides line up for days to get in and get designer wedding dresses at fire sale prices, you are not going to get anything for less than two grand. So, what if you offer that same two thousand dollars to a custom shop that maybe is not producing that many dresses right now? Do you think they will decline your business or turn you away? Not in today’s tough economy where most couples are scrimping and saving. These days most couples end up spending all of their own savings on their wedding.

How to Save Money on Custom Wedding Dresses

So let’s say for the sake of argument that you want a specific custom wedding dress that you saw in a movie. My advice is to go immediately online and search for designer shops that cater to this sort of thing. If you really want to save money and be even more innovative and daring, you may want to try a local fashion college or art school that features dress design. Post a notice on their board saying that you are interested in contracting a student to design a custom wedding dress for you. I bet you will receive many qualified responses. One tip: don’t pay for anything until you get the design you want, then only pay half up front and half on delivery. Make sure they give you an invoice saying “deposit paid” and make sure you work out whether or not the deposit is refundable if they don’t deliver. You don’t want to end up in one of those judge shows on TV.
